FRIENDS of St George’s Church Wootton Constitution

St Georges Church Wootton is a listed building which has played an important part in the lives of the parishioners of Wootton for hundreds of years. Thousands of people, not only regular worshippers but also visitors and those involved in baptisms, weddings and funerals, have been inspired by the heritage of the church.

The FRIENDS of St George’s Church Wootton was formed in June 2011.

The aim of the FRIENDS is to raise funds for the upkeep & development of the Church building; thereby improving facilities in ways that would benefit the community of Wootton. Membership is open to anyone, whether a church member or not, who has an interest in maintaining the church as a place of worship and local amenity, for this and future generations. All decisions regarding the maintenance and development of the building are the responsibility of the PCC. Money raised for the restoration and improvement of the church building by the FRIENDS will only ever be used for that purpose. It will not be used for normal day to day parish worship and running costs.

The church is currently undergoing a major programme of development to provide basic facilities. In addition we need to build up funds so that repairs and maintenance work can go ahead in a planed manner in the future. Our initial target is around £100,000. St George’s does not receive any regular outside funding. The amount required to complete the proposed programmed is too much of a burden on the congregation. FRIENDS of St George’s Church Wootton was formed to assist with the fund raising. Friends has already received £1,150 in donations but much more is needed.

Friends support a number of activities:

Monthly draw with subscriptions on an annual [£52], quarterly [£13], monthly [£4 or £5] or weekly [£1] basis. Monthly prizes are awarded according to the numbers who have paid in that month. First prize 50%, Second 30% and third prize 20%. The draw takes place monthly at the end of family service on the first Sunday of the following month. The number of weeks in the month is determined by the number of Sundays in the month.

Informal gifts of any amount are also very welcome. The FRIENDS Membership secretary also administers the draw.

Gift values are increased by 20% (2010/11) if they are made under the Gift Aid scheme, which can apply if you pay an amount of tax at least equal to the tax we will reclaim from your donation.

Various fund raising activities.

The FRIENDS Executive Committee [2011/2012] includes

Position

Chairman

Treasurer

Recording Secretary

Church Warden

Church Warden

Membership Secretary/Administrator

Activity/Fundraising Representative

The committee meets regularly. As most members of the Friends Executive Committee are also members of the PCC, FRIENDS is a formal agenda item on the PCC. A report from the friends membership secretary/administrator is given or read out at each PCC meeting, depending if the membership secretary is on the PCC. So in effect the executive committee is the PCC, except for the, membership and activity/fundraising representatives, who may not be on the PCC and thus would only be part of the FREINDS committee.

All fundraising including the draw come under the FRIENDS of St George’s Church Wootton.
